Italy vs Australia

Was this going to be Australia's greatest ever history in the making football victory?!

It certainly looked like Italy were vulnerable as they had been reduced to ten men following Materazzi's red card five minutes into the second half. The Italians must have feared the worst and a repeat of their loss to Hiddink's Korea Republic at this stage four years ago.

The match looked like it was heading for overtime when on the 94th minute, only eight seconds from the end of the game, Grosso broke into the Australia box and dived for a penalty, which was incredibly awarded. Perhaps the referee Luis Medina Cantalejo from Spain was tired and wanted the game to end as he pointed to the penalty spot. Schwarzer went the right way, but Totti beat him with a powerful shot.

The final score 1-0 for Italy.

This was the end of Australia's fantastic World Cup effort.
