The first World Cup match was simply put an awesome display of the Socceroos determination and team play. Australia showed all their fighting qualities to come back in a game in which they looked beaten. Japan controlled the match for long periods but then in the last eight minutes the Socceroos scored three times... a disaster for Japan!

HIghlights of the match:

In the 26th minute Nakamura's shot flew over the advancing Mark Schwarzer and rolled into the empty net to the screams of the thousands of Japanese fans in the arena.

0-1 to Japan.

In the 85th minute from a corner the Japanese goalkeeper was left punching the air as he ventured outside his six-yard box where Cahill bundled in the equaliser.

The score now 1-1.

Just four minutes later Cahill again in action kicking in a 20-yarder hitting one post and hurdling into the opposite corner of the net to give Australia the lead. Japan was beaten now for sure.

The score now 2-1 to Australia.

Three minutes lates it was the turn of another substitute Aloisi to boot in a leftie into the net.

Australia wins 3-1!
