South Africa 2010

The organising committee behind the 2010 FIFA World Cup made a statement saying that the costs of staging the World Cup event have skyrocketed from 2.3 billion Rand ($303,670 million) to 12 billion Rand ($1.58 billion).

The price has risen due to the decision to build five new soccer specific stadiums rather than convert existing rugby venues, as originally planned.

South Africa will host the first ever World Cup to take place on the African continent in 2010.
