Newcastle Jets shock Adelaide United
A cracking strike by Nick Carle gave the Newcastle Jets a shock 2-1 win over Adelaide United at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Friday night.
After Carl Veart had blasted a penalty over the bar, Carle picked up a loose ball on the edge of his box and set off on what would prove to be a dramatic winner when his left foot shot swerved into the far corner leaving Adelaide keeper Robert Bajic with no chance.
An expensive miss by Veart who had earlier cancelled out Vaughn Coveney's 26th minute strike with a converted penalty in the 37th minute after Paul Okon pulled back Shengqing Qu.
Jade North was sent off at the death after he cleared the ball over the bar with his arm, leading to Veart's penalty miss and a third straight win for Gary Van Egmond's men.
Newcastle Jets 2 (Coveny 26, Carle 90)
Adelaide United 1 (Veart 37)
