No joy for Victory

Melbourne Victory FC striker Fred will be out of action for the next three matches after his appeal against a three-week ban for violent conduct was upheld.

The Victory claimed the punishment handed down to Fred was severe but a Football Federation Australia appeals tribunal upheld the finding of the original decision.

Fred clashed with Sydney FC player Mark Milligan in their round 2 A-League at the Telstra Dome on September 2 with cameras showing Fred appearing to elbow Milligan in the throat.

Fred will be back in round six when the Victory hosts Queensland Roar at Olympic Park on October 1.
