Defending Champs win opener

27th August

The final match in the opening round of the Hyundai A-League saw defending champions Sydney FC post a 1-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners FC at Aussie Stadium.

New Sydney boss Terry Butcher began his coaching career down under with a first up win after Iain Fyfe fired home his first Hyundai A-League goal in the 51st minute.

In a rematch of last season's Grand Final, also won 1-0 by Sydney, keeper Clint Bolton was in rare form making two exceptional saves to keep his team in the lead.

In the end it was Bolton’s man of the match performance between the sticks that earned Sydney all three points.
