Asian Cup History

The Asian Cup was first decided in 1956 with the Korean Republic the competitions inaugural winners under a round robin format.

The Korean Republic dominated the competition in the early days winning the first two Asian Cup tournaments before Iran went one better winning three consecutive titles.

The 80’s belonged to the Gulf states with Kuwait (80) and Saudi Arabia (84, 88) crowned kings of Asia before the East hit back with Japan winning three of the last four competitions including the last two in succession.
